We’re excited to be a sponsor for Vogue Knitting Live! in New York.
It takes place next weekend from Friday, January 17, through Sunday, January 19. There is still time to register, and there are many interesting classes still available. (There is a coupon for discounted admission to the Marketplace at the end of this post.)
You can find the class list on this page. Sort by “teacher” to find the times and descriptions of their classes and lectures.
One of Louisa’s classes is “Knit the English Rose”, which is the embellishment you see on the shawl above. It’s also featured on the Gillespie Shawl I’ve been knitting.
During the class people will learn about working the cable cast on and working short rows. I suppose speedy knitters might even finish their rose during the class!
I’m supposed to be shadowing both Louisa and Debbie to take pictures to share with you on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram. I hope I can sneak into one of Louisa’s rose classes since I’ll be making one in a few weeks!
Another class Louisa is teaching focuses on using self-striping and variegated yarns, like her Amitola seen here. The class description says, “A selection of Louisa’s Amitola yarn will be available for you to work with.”
How cool will that be to knit with one of the yarns she selected while she’s there telling you about it?!
One of Debbie’s lectures is “The Utter Versatility of Patterns from Arans and Guernseys.” She’ll be discussing the history of these beautiful sweaters, and ways to incorporate them in your modern knitting. Such as with this cute dress from her Blue Faced Leicester DK book.
I think most knitters admire the cables and textures used in traditional Aran sweaters and dream of the day they are brave enough to knit their own.
Another of Debbie’s lectures is about choosing designs to flatter your body. She’ll discuss using texture and colors to your best advantage. The description says, “Understand your shape and how to highlight all your best features!”
You’ll have a better idea of whether you should go ahead and knit that beautiful Dior style dress from the Fall/Winter 2013 issue of Debbie Bliss Magazine, or just admire it and move on.
Both ladies will be doing book signings in the Vogue Knitting booth on the sixth floor.
Debbie will be there Saturday from 11 to 11:30 and on Sunday from 12:30 to 1.
Louisa will be there Saturday from 12:30 to 1 and on Sunday from 1 to 1:30.
Those dates and times are also listed in the “Special Events” section of the show schedule.
Speaking of Special Events! Be sure to attend the “Miss Bliss & The English Rose” Fashion Show on Saturday from 4:30 to 5 on the Special Events Stage on the sixth floor.
It will be a great opportunity to see the garments from Louisa’s new book “Knits from an English Rose” in person, along with some of Debbie’s new designs.
In addition to all great opportunities to attend classes and lectures with the knitwear designers you know and love, there is a Marketplace full of temptations. Local yarn stores travel to the show and set up booths with select goodies.
If for some reason you aren’t interested in attending any of the classes, you can buy a ticket that just allows you into the Marketplace. We’re please to be able to provide the above coupon for discounted admission in-person. Click the picture to see a bigger version, then print it out like you normally would.
We hope to see you next weekend at Vogue Knitting Live!
